M1A1 2.36-inch Rocket Launcher Anti Tank - Bazooka

The M1A1 2.36-inch Anti Tank Rocket Launcher - the first generation shoulder fired Anti Tank Rocket Launcher.

As a result of improvements in recoilless weapons and the shaped charge warhead, the ingredients where all present for the Anti Tank Rocket Launcher to be
developed. The Shaped Charge Rocket came first and the Bazooka Rocket Launcher was born out of the need to deliver the warhead without exposing the firer to the exhaust rocket blast.

The Bazooka first saw combat in 1942 on the Russian Front and was used in the Allied landings in North Africa. During this time, several Bazookas fell into the hands of German troops and were used to develop the German Panzerschreck which had a larger and more powerful warhead and was generally considered superior to the Bazooka Anti Tank Rocket Launcher.
